U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr
The U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr is made up of the U.S. military installations in Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Hohenfels Garmisch and Berlin and the Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels training areas. Currently, 2,800 U.S. soldiers are stationed in Grafenwoehr. This already includes 1,750 of the 3,500 soldiers of the 172d Infantry Brigade which will have completely moved from Schweinfurt to Grafenwoehr by the end of 2010. The relocation of the brigade led to an expansion of U.S. military facilities in Grafenwoehr. The total cost associated with that expansion is 650 million Euro and will be completely financed with funds from the U.S. Department of Defense budget. Grafenwoehr is also the home of the 7th Army Joint Multinational Training Command which is responsible for the planning, organization, development and implementation of the training of all U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe. The U.S. Army’s 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment with about 4,200 soldiers is stationed in Vilseck. The Stryker vehicle is one of the Army’s most modern weapon systems. To date, the U.S. Army has only five Stryker regiments worldwide. Currently, the U.S. Army and its contract partners employ 2,800 German and 1,350 American civilian employees in Grafenwoehr and Vilseck. This makes the U.S. Army the eleventh largest employer in Bavaria. Partnership-Coordinator: Susanne Bartsch Homepage: U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr
